New Homes for local people in Stretham

Blackberry Way, Stretham

During November 2024, Hundred Houses Society were pleased to complete the purchase of 6 new homes at Manor Farm, Stretham.

This was the result of some excellent partnership work with the Stretham & Wilburton Community Land Trust, which was established in 2011, as a not-for-profit organisation focused on providing homes for local people in housing need in the Stretham area.

Manor Farm, the Community Land Trust’s flagship project, has extended the village of Stretham, providing 100 new homes designed to support local people over 4 phases. These 6 homes are part of phase 4 which also included 15 homes for sale.

The Community Land Trust praised the partnership work saying:

The Community Land Trust is delighted to have partnered with Hundred Houses Society on Phase 4 of Manor Farm in Stretham, delivering 6 high-quality homes for local people. This project has been a fantastic example of how working together can benefit our community. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and value the strong relationship we’ve developed. We look forward to exploring opportunities to work together again in the future

Matt Thomas, Chief Executive of Hundred Houses, added:

“This project highlights what can be achieved when we work together with local organisations. Manor Farm is more than just bricks and mortar; it’s a testament to the importance of community partnerships in addressing the housing crisis.”

Local residents have now started moving into the new homes. Carol Harrington (pictured), one of the new residents shared her positive experience:

“Everything  is lovely. I like the fact there are new radiators, new windows, and the space outside. Resident picture

The place it’s situated - I am back to where I came from. I’ve lived in this village for 20 years. The house is great, everything that has been put in is good. It has a walk-in shower, good cupboard space; for me, it’s perfect.

“The process of moving was fine - when I called, someone always answered the phone and responded to my emails. Karen Howes (Housing Officer) is fantastic; she was great! I love it, I do love it.”

Everyone is pleased that residents like Carol can celebrate their first festive season in their new homes, with Manor Farm being an excellent reminder of the importance of a home and what can be achieved through community-driven housing developments.
