Universal Credit Managed Migration Notice: Important Information for HHS Tenants

Universal Credit Signpost

If you receive a Migration Notice letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), do not ignore it.

You must apply for Universal Credit (UC) before the deadline stated in the letter, which is usually three months from the date it was sent. If you do not apply on time, your existing ‘legacy’ benefits (such as Housing Benefit, ESA, or Income Support) will stop the day after the deadline, unless you contact the DWP to request an extension and they approve your request.

When you need to apply for Universal Credit - Move to Universal Credit

Anyone moving to Universal Credit through managed migration will have their benefit entitlement protected through Transitional Protection. This means that if your circumstances remain the same, your total benefit entitlement will not be reduced when you first move to UC.

What is Transitional Protection and how do I know if I am eligible?
